Video of my interview on NEWSMAX-TV to discuss immigration crisis: "Immigration Expert: US Is Nation of 50 Border States"

Hi Gang:
Earlier today, Thursday, June 19th, I was a guest on the Newsmax Television program, “America’s Forum” to discuss the immigration crisis that has drawn more attention than usual because of the flood of illegal alien minors flooding across the US/Mexican border.
It is unfortunate that it took these latest situation involving tens of thousands of illegal alien minors, to garner media attention and ignite public interest- indeed outrage, about he myriad failures of the immigration system because these failures undermine national security, public safety, public health and the host of other major challenges and threats that America and Americans face.
JD Hayworth is the co-anchor of the program and is a former member of the United States House of Representatives.  I testified before the House Immigration Reform Caucus in November 2001, roughly 6 weeks after the terror attacks of 9/11.  JD attended that hearing.  It was good to join him and his cohost this morning to do an interview that by current television standards was much longer than usual, enabling us to get into components of the immigration crisis that is rarely covered by the major cable networks.
Here is the article about the interview and the link to the video of the segment in which I appeared.  The segment runs about ten minutes.
Please forward this e-mail to as many folks as possible- I am attempting to create a “Bucket Brigade of Truth.”
Beneath the NewsmaxTV report are some links and quotes to provide some important background information about the nexus between immigration and national security.  I urge you to take the time to review those materials.
Every politician who advocates for “Comprehensive Immigration Reform” or other such program and every politician, on the local or state level who supports the creation of “Sanctuary Cities” and “Sanctuary States” and/or the issuance of drivers’ licenses for illegal aliens must be made to answer one simple question- “Why are you ignoring commonsense, your constituents, your oath of office and, perhaps most importantly, the findings and recommendations of the 9/11 Commission and the 9/11 Commission staff?

The flood of illegal immigrants entering the United States is actually helping bolster the case of open border advocates, according to immigration enforcement expert Michael Cutler, who appeared on Newsmax TV’s “America’s Forum.”

“One of the arguments we hear from the open borders crowd on both sides of the aisle, well we can’t deport 11 million,” he said, suggesting that the actual number of illegal immigrants in the United States is between 30 million and 40 million. “So every day when more come here, the case gets stronger from their perspective. ‘Oh my God, we have so many what can we do?’ Well, we never said that about drunk drivers or murderers or bank robbers.”

Border security is not limited to states abutting Mexico, Cutler said, saying the United States is a nation of 50 border states.

“Any state that has an international airport has access to the thousands of miles of meandering U.S. coast line or lies along the northern or southern borders, of course border states, that means every state,” he said. “So how in the world do you defend a country when your borders are wide open?”

Border security is synonymous with national security and that providing legal status to people who cannot prove their identity helps enable terrorists who can live in America “in plain sight,” according to Cutler.

He criticized the increasing absence of the term “alien” when labeling people who enter the country illegally. The word, he said, has all but been banned as an act of political correctness and that it’s purposeful legal nomenclature, not an insult.

“The term alien simply means any person not a citizen or national of the United States.” he said. “There’s no insult there but there is clarity. This is a game of obfuscating the truth and providing fog if you will and the fog machine is the words. Second of all … the difference between an immigrant and an illegal alien is comparable to the difference between a house guest or a burglar. We all love company but not when people fly in through our bedroom window in the middle of the night.”

There are valid and important reasons for keep illegal immigrants out of the country, according to Cutler, who cited a section of the United States code charged with keeping out “aliens with dangerous communicable diseases, serious mental illness, people who are violent, sex offenders, aliens who are convicted felons, human rights violators, war criminals, spies, terrorists, aliens who had become a public charge or aliens who by working will displace an American worker or at the very least drive down wages.”

The starting point for any discussion about immigration must be the findings and recommendations of the 9/11 Commission.  Yet there are precious few members of Congress in either the House of Representatives or the United States Senate from either party willing to even mention the fact that there was a 9/11 Commission- when the topic of immigration is raised!

Here are a couple of important quotes to put things in proper perspective:

The first paragraph of the preface of the The 9/11 Commission Staff Report on Terrorist Travel  begins with the following statement:

It is perhaps obvious to state that terrorists cannot plan and carry out attacks in the United

States if they are unable to enter the country. Yet prior to September 11, while there were

efforts to enhance border security, no agency of the U.S. government thought of border

security as a tool in the counterterrorism arsenal. Indeed, even after 19 hijackers

demonstrated the relative ease of obtaining a U.S. visa and gaining admission into the

United States, border security still is not considered a cornerstone of national security

policy. We believe, for reasons we discuss in the following pages, that it must be made

one.

The 9/11 Commission Staff Report on Terrorist travel went on to detail numerous examples of instances where terrorists not only made use of visa and immigration benefit fraud to enter the United States but to also embed themselves in the United States. Page 47 of this report noted:

Once terrorists had entered the United States, their next challenge was to find a way to remain here. Their primary method was immigration fraud. For example, Yousef and Ajaj concocted bogus political asylum stories when they arrived in the United States. Mahmoud Abouhalima, involved in both the World Trade Center and landmarks plots, received temporary residence under the Seasonal Agricultural Workers (SAW) program, after falsely claiming that he picked beans in Florida.

This paragraph is found on page 98 under the title “Immigration Benefits:”

Terrorists in the 1990s, as well as the September 11 hijackers, needed to find a way to stay in or embed themselves in the United States if their operational plans were to come to fruition. As already discussed, this could be accomplished legally by marrying an American citizen, achieving temporary worker status, or applying for asylum after entering. In many cases, the act of filing for an immigration benefit sufficed to permit the alien to remain in the country until the petition was adjudicated. Terrorists were free to conduct surveillance, coordinate operations, obtain and receive funding, go to school and learn English, make contacts in the United States, acquire necessary materials, and execute an attack.

On Sunday, June 15, 2014 (Fathers’ Day), my article was published as the cover story for a new Washington Times digital magazine:

Armstrong Williams is the Executive Editor of this magazine that was founded by Dr. Ben Carson.
Here are two links, first is the link to the cover artwork:
The importance of our borders and our immigration laws cannot be overemphasized.  In the war on terror and transnational gangs, they are our first line of defense and our last line of defense. They are equally important to American workers who are facing unfair competition from foreign workers, aided and abetted by the administration and advocates for “Sanctuary Cities” and Comprehensive Immigration Reform,
In his historic speech before the 3rd Army on May 31, 1944, General George S. Patton said, on the strategy of holding a position:

We’re not holding anything, we’ll let the Hun do that. We are advancing constantly, and we’re not interested in holding onto anything except the enemy.”

Pushing back against Comprehensive Immigration Reform is the same as holding position. The time has come for us to advance by demanding that our borders be made truly secure and our immigration laws be effectively administered and enforced.

Comprehensive Immigration Reform violates all of the findings and recommendations of the 9/11 Commission but no one is willing to even consider how the lack of real border security and the lack of real integrity to the various components of the immigration system imperil national security and public safety.

The findings and recommendations of the 9/11 Commission must be the starting point for any discussion about immigration legislation.  That commission determined that a lack of border security, including the visa process. and fraud in the immigration benefits program, enabled terrorists to enter and embed themselves in the United States, as they went about their deadly preparations.

Immigration is not a single issue but a singular issue that impacts nearly every challenge and threat confronting the United States today!  Simply stated, the immigration laws were enacted to save lives and protect the jobs of American workers.  In point of fact, our borders and our immigration laws are America’s first line of defense and last line of defense against international terrorists and transnational criminals.
It is not “Anti-Immigrant” to be “Pro-American!”

Our armed forces are charged with securing America’s borders externally while the DHS is supposed to secure those same borders from within.  The failures of the DHS to live up to its half of the equation are undermining the efforts, valor and incredible sacrifices of Americas men and women who serve in our military!
If our government’s failures to protect American jobs by securing our nation’s borders and effectively enforcing our immigration laws concerns you or especially if it angers you, I ask you to call your Senators and Congressional “Representative. This is not only your right- it is your obligation!

All I ask is that you make it clear to our politicians that we are not as dumb as they hope we are!

We live in a perilous world and in a perilous era. The survival of our nation and the lives of our citizens hang in the balance.

This is neither a Conservative issue, nor is it a Liberal issue- simply stated, this is most certainly an AMERICAN issue!

You are either part of the solution or you are a part of the problem!

Democracy is not a spectator sport!

Lead, follow or get out of the way!
