WSB-TV, the Atlanta, Georgia ABC affiliated station has been covering various aspects of the immigration crisis that is confronting our nation. They have interviewed me on a couple of occasions and this evening they ran two segments in which I make very brief appearances. Both of the news reports deal with the lack of security to be found along the United States / Mexican border and how among the tsunami of illegal aliens who seek to illegally enter our country are aliens from countries other than Mexico that are referred to as "OTM's" (Other Than Mexican). Among these OTM's are aliens who are citizens of so-called "Special Interest" nations- countries that are associated with the state sponsorship of terrorism or that are otherwise identified as having an involvement with international terrorists.
The second segment disclosed that DHS has established the goal of apprehending just 30% of the illegal aliens seeking unlawful entry into our country by seeking to evade the inspections process that is supposed to document the entry of aliens and prevent the entry of aliens whose presence in our country would be harmful for a variety of reasons as established by the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA)!
As a high school student 65% was a passing grade but certainly would not be cause for any celebration, but for the Department of Homeland Surrender, 30% is considered a good grade?!
In watching the video you will notice that Napolitano said that the borders are as secure as they have been! The problem is- THE BORDERS HAVE NEVER BEEN SECURE!
The candid reports make it clear that the goal of the administration is not to secure our nation's borders but to create the illusion that the borders are secure.
It is clear that, as I noted in my brief appearance in one of the segments, that the government is attempting to treat the citizens of our nation as thought they were mushrooms! As you may know, you grow mushrooms by keeping them in the dark and feeding them a lot of fertilizer!
It is commendable that Brad Stone, the producer behind these news reports would be willing to do what all too few of his colleagues in broadcast journalism are wiling to do- report on the facts as they are, not as the government attempts to claim that they are!
Time and again I have noted that it is an outrage that even as our borders remain as porous as a sieve and that illegal aliens including criminals and terrorists are barely impeded by our nation's borders, viewing the borders as little more than "speed bumps," that the citizens of our nation have witnessed a continual erosion of their expectations of privacy and freedom in the name of the "War on Terror" and the "War on Drugs!"
Undoubtedly, national security should be a major priority for our nation's leaders but to secure our nation, our borders must be secure and the immigration system must have real integrity.
For far too long the "leaders" of our nation have lied to the citizens of our nation about a host of issues- immigration being only one of many.
The sixteenth president of our nation, Abraham Lincoln is remembered for many of his sayings. Today, on the eve of the midterm elections I believe that the following phrase should be seen as an admonition to elected representatives who, in their arrogance, have made the mistake of hoping that the citizens of our nation were stupid.
"You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time."
I was happy to be interviewed by Brad as he sought to bring the truth to the citizens of our nation.
I know Brad and his colleagues at WSB-TV have other reports in the works and look forward to seeing them online also.
I hope that his forthright style of journalism will rub off on other producers and reporters at other television stations. Honest journalism is a major component of the democratic process. By shining the bright light of truth on critically important issues, journalists can provide vital information to the electorate who can use the information to know what candidates for elected office are worthy of their votes.
Providing the unvarnished truth to the citizens of our nation enable our citizens to know what is really happening and, in so doing, blowing away the language of obfuscation that is all too often used by deceptive politicians.
After the terrorist attacks committed on our nation's soil in 1993 and again in 2001, along with the many failed attempts should have convinced our "leaders" that the borders of our nation must be made secure and the immigration system must have real integrity that protects our nation and our citizens while honoring the countless millions of lawful immigrants who have, over the past two centuries, entered our country seeking the freedoms and opportunities that made the United States the role model for the world!
Clearly this has not happened!
Tomorrow, Election Day, will hopefully be a "Day of Reckoning" for the politicians who have failed to live up to their oaths of office and have betrayed the trust of those they were elected to represent!
News reports, such as those for which I have provided for you below, along with links to the relating videos that aired on WSB-TV this evening, provide clear and convincing evidence of the duplicitous conduct of our government and many of our political "leaders."
Honest and effective reporting enlightens the citizens of our nation and this, in turn, will require that the government finally do that which the politicians and the political appointees have tried to convince us they have been doing all along, while lying through their teeth!
This is the true value of honest journalism and is the principle behind the First Amendment!
If our country is to survive and if our children and their children are to get their share of the "American Dream" the citizens of this nation must take their citizenship seriously!
We the People must be the best citizens we can be, citizens who are worthy of the gallantry demonstrated by our valiant men and women in the military, law enforcement and firefighters, who routinely go in harm's way in defense of this nation and our citizens.
My goal in writing this and other commentaries is to point out our nations many failings before more victims pay the ultimate price for the incompetence and ineptitude of our government.
The first step in problem-solving is to first identify the problems and vulnerabilities and then devise strategies to overcome them.
If you find yourself to be in agreement with this commentary, I ask that you forward it to as many of your friends and family members as possible and encourage them to do the same. We need to create a "Bucket Brigade of Truth!"
Tomorrow, each and every member of the House of Representatives is up for reelection and more than one third of the members of the United States Senate will have to face their constituents. They need to be reminded that they work for us, We the People!
However, the practice of good citizenship does not end in the voting booth, it only begins there.
The large scale apathy demonstrated by citizens of this nation has emboldened elected representatives to all but ignore the needs of the average American citizen in a quest for massive campaign funds and the promises of votes to be ostensibly delivered by special interest groups. There is much that we cannot do but there is one thing that We the People absolutely must do- we must stop sitting on the sidelines!
The collective failure of We the People to get involved in make our concerns known to our politicians have nearly made the concerns of the great majority of the citizens of this nation all but irrelevant to the politicians.I implore you to get involved!
If this situation concerns you or especially if it angers you, I ask you to call your Senators and Congressional "Representative. This is not only your right- it is your obligation!
All I ask is that you make it clear to our politicians that we are not as dumb as they hope we are!
We live in a perilous world and in a perilous era. The survival of our nation and the lives of our citizens hang in the balance.
This is neither a Conservative issue, nor is it a Liberal issue- simply stated, this is most certainly an AMERICAN issue!
You are either part of the solution or you are a part of the problem!
Democracy is not a spectator sport!

Channel 2 Raises Questions About Border Security

ATLANTA — Channel 2 Action News uncovered a report that raises questions about the U.S. Homeland Security Department's own goals for stopping the illegal flow of people into the United States along the Mexico border.
Justin Farmer traveled to Arizona to continue his investigation into the security threat along the border. He joined border agents on a night patrol near Arivaca.
Channel 2 Raises Questions About Border Security
Border agents use infrared technology that can scan 10 miles in any direction. One camera spotted a group of smugglers on the move. Farmer followed the agents as they tracked the group for three hours, but the smugglers got away.
Seventy miles north in Pinal County, Sheriff Paul Babeu told Farmer heavily-armed drug cartels are operating in the desert, not far from Phoenix.
"Squad-size elements, every day and every night coming through our border. Heavily armed (groups) that out-gun and out-man my deputies."
In a recent Government Accounting Office report, the Homeland Security Department listed its performance goals for 2008-2010. Those goals include to "detect and apprehend 30 percent of major illegal activity and criminals at ports of entry."
Retired immigration agent Michael Cuttler said that is unacceptable. "How would you like to get on an airplane where they tell you, you have a 30 percent chance of arriving alive at your destination?"
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano knows the border well. She served as attorney general and governor of Arizona. During recent U.S. Senate hearings, she said it is possible that terrorists could cross the southwestern U.S. border.
Napolitano also shocked many people in a CNN interview when she said, "crossing the border is not a crime per se. It is civil."
Title 1325 of the U.S. code states those who enter the United States illegally are committing a crime punishable by up to six months in jail and a fine.
A spokesman for Napolitano said she has retracted her statement.
State Sen. Russell Pearce wrote Arizona's bill 1070. It required that illegal immigration laws be enforced. He says the issue has become personal to him since his son, who is a sheriff's deputy, was wounded while serving a warrant on an illegal immigrant near Phoenix.
"Government is responsible for that," he said. "For their failure to secure our borders and enforce the law."

Channel 2 Uncovers Proof Terrorists Crossed Mexican Border

ATLANTA — The U.S. Border Patrol has captured thousands of people they say are classified as OTM which stands for "other than Mexican." Documents show many of them are from terrorists nations like Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Sudan, Somalia, Pakistan and Yemen. Federal authorities call those groups SIAs, which stands for "special interest aliens".
Federal officials have offered few details about the number of actual terrorists caught along the border.
Retired immigration agent Michael Cuttler says the actual threat is being covered up. "Incredibly the government is attempting to keep the citizens like a bunch of mushrooms. Keep us in the dark and feed us a bunch of manure."
Government officials have denied that terrorists have crossed our open border. Still, Channel 2 Action News has proof they have. Channel 2 Anchor Justin Farmer found documents filed in federal court in San Antonio, Texas, in May. They show an indictment against Ahmed Muhammad Dhakane for allegedly smuggling hundreds of people from Brazil to Mexico, then into the U.S. The federal indictment states it includes some Somalis from the terrorist group Al Shabob. Terrorism experts say the group is responsible for terrorist attacks and suicide bombings worldwide.
"To this day we do not know where those 300 Somalis are," said Rep. Michael McCaul of Texas. "We do know they are in the United States."
A 2009 Government Accounting Office report confirmed agents have picked up three known terrorists who crossed the southwestern border of the United States. No other information was released.
"There are many people not only being apprehended, but slipping through the cracks on our southern flank that are very dangerous," said McCaul.
Intelligence officials have admitted on record there is a terrorism threat. In 2007, former National Intelligence Director Mike McConnell told the El Paso Times that terrorists have been crossing the border. He said there are many situations where people are alive today because the terrorists were caught.
Sheriffs along the southwestern U.S. border also are aware of the threat.
"There is (intelligence) we have that is very troubling", said Sheriff Paul Babeu of Pinal County, Ariz. "Things are not getting better, they are getting worse."
