America’s immigration laws were enacted to achieve two primary goals- protect innocent lives and the jobs of American workers.
No sensible person would fail to lock his/her door at night, especially if it was known that burglars and home invaders were operating in the neighborhood.  It would not be xenophobic or anti-social to be careful about letting people into our homes- this is why virtually every front door comes equipped with a peephole and a door bell or similar devices.  In point of fact, being careful about admitting strangers into our homes is concerned commonsense and prudent.  Similarly, the enforcement of our immigration laws, which make absolutely no distinction about race, religion or ethnicity but are intended to prevent the entry and continued presence of aliens engaged in criminal or terrorist-related activities is not only reasonable but essential for America’s security and the safety and well-being of Americans.
My most recent commentary was posted on the Californians for Population Stabilization (CAPS) website on April 1, 2015.  The title of my commentary is so incredible that you might believe that it is a bogus story in keeping with the concept of an “April Fool’s Day” joke.  The reality is that this is not a bogus title and the story is all too real.  The topic of my commentary is hardly a joke even if it defies belief:

The job of a police officer is one that engenders the ultimate level of trust that can be given to a person.  Police officers are authorized, under certain conditions, to use deadly force and literally, make life and death decisions.

The vetting process for police officers has always been an issue of extreme importance because of the nature of the work that police officers do.  Police officers are tested every day that they go on duty.  They may encounter those who would attempt to bribe them.  They need to understand our nation’s rich history of freedom of speech and all of our other rights guaranteed under our Constitution.  Imagine how an alien who had been living in the United States for a short period of time and not familiar with our customs might react to a person challenging that officer for stopping him/her.  Furthermore, imagine that the alien in question is a citizen of a country where bribery is considered perfectly normal and constitutes “business as usual” and where disagreements are customarily resolved with the butt of a rifle being slammed into the disobedient person.

Most significantly, imagine what a police badge, uniform and police car would mean to an alien who is a member of an international terrorism organization such as ISIS, Hezbollah, al-Qaeda or Hammas.  Imagine how that badge, uniform and police car could be used by a member of a transnational criminal organization such as a drug cartel.

In a recent film based on a Tom Clancy novel, a terrorist hides a bomb in a van painted to look like a police vehicle.  Unwittingly police departments may wind up providing an actual police vehicle to a terrorist.
Until recently, it would have been unthinkable for a police department to be willing to hire non-citizens.  Now with all of these additional concerns- for unfathomable reasons, apparently there are police departments that not only hire lawful immigrants- which would have been wrong-headed, however some departments are willing to hire aliens who have simply been granted employment authorization.
The USA Today article that served as the predication for my commentary was vague about whether or not aliens granted temporary lawful status under the administration’s program known as DACA (Deferred Action- Childhood Arrivals) but it, in fact all that some police departments require is that the prospective police officer may be an alien who was granted employment authorization, then “DREAMERS” may well be hired as sworn police officers.  These are individuals whose backgrounds cannot be readily determined because these are aliens who by their own admission entered the United States surreptitiously- purportedly prior to their 15th birthday.  However, they can be as old as 31 years of age when they apply for this lawful status.  They are not being interviewed in person and no routine field investigations are being conducted to determine the truthfulness of the information contained in their applications.
Immigration fraud was determined by the 9/11 Commission to be the primary entry and embedding tactic of international terrorists and not only the 19 terrorists who so savagely attacked the United States on September 11, 2001 but in other instances that the Commission reviewed, as well.
There is no rational or reasonable justification for any police department not making United States citizenship an iron-clad requirement for any police officer.  It is vital for all police officers to be thoroughly vetted and to have a clear understanding of America’s laws and traditions.
As it is, the naturalization process has been streamlined to the point where the scrutiny of applications for citizenship leaves much to be desired.  Now we have local governments making a mockery of the entire naturalization process altogether.

I have come to compare the issue of securing the US/Mexican border with a wing on an airplane.  Without the wing, the airplane will not, of course, fly.  However, a wing by itself goes absolutely nowhere!  We have 50 border states and the key issue is to address the abject lack of integrity to entire immigration system.

This is not a new problem, on July 13, 2011 the Washington Times published a truly disturbing article:

“Visas reviewed to find those who overstayed / Aim is to find any would-be terrorists

The importance of our borders and our immigration laws cannot be overemphasized.  In the war on terror and transnational gangs, they are our first line of defense and our last line of defense against international terrorists and transnational criminals.  They are equally important to American workers who are facing unfair competition from foreign workers, aided and abetted by the administration and advocates for “Sanctuary Cities” and Comprehensive Immigration Reform.  

The starting point for any conversation or legislation concerning immigration must be the findings and recommendations of the 9/11 Commission which determined that a lack of border security, including the visa process. and fraud in the immigration benefits program enabled terrorists to enter and embed themselves in the United States, as they went about their deadly preparations.


In his historic speech before the 3rd Army on May 31, 1944, General George S. Patton said, on the strategy of holding a position:

“We’re not holding anything, we’ll let the Hun do that. We are advancing constantly, and we’re not interested in holding onto anything except the enemy.”

Pushing back against Comprehensive Immigration Reform is the same as holding position. The time has come for us to advance by demanding that our borders be made truly secure and our immigration laws be effectively administered and enforced.

Comprehensive Immigration Reform violates all of the findings and recommendations of the 9/11 Commission but no one is willing to even consider how the lack of real border security and the lack of real integrity to the various components of the immigration system imperil national security and public safety.

Immigration is not a single issue but a singular issue that impacts nearly every challenge and threat confronting the United States today!  Simply stated, the immigration laws were enacted to save lives and protect the jobs of American workers.

It is not “Anti-Immigrant” to be “Pro-American!”

Our armed forces are charged with securing America’s borders externally while the DHS is supposed to secure those same borders from within.  The failures of the DHS to live up to its half of the equation are undermining the efforts, valor and incredible sacrifices of Americas men and women who serve in our military!

If our government’s failures to protect American jobs by securing our nation’s borders and effectively enforcing our immigration laws concerns you or especially if it angers you, I ask you to call your Senators and Congressional “Representative. This is not only your right- it is your obligation! 

All I ask is that you make it clear to our politicians that we are not as dumb as they hope we are!

We live in a perilous world and in a perilous era. The survival of our nation and the lives of our citizens hang in the balance.

This is neither a Conservative issue, nor is it a Liberal issue- simply stated, this is most certainly an AMERICAN issue!

You are either part of the solution or you are a part of the problem!

Democracy is not a spectator sport!
