I urge you to get involved and demand our elected representatives actually represent us- We the People! The information contained in my article is being provided to educate as many of our fellow Americans as possible so that they can ask the right questions and make the appropriate demands on our political leaders and representatives. The article for which I am providing the link below should motivate everyone who reads it to call his/her senators and representatives to demand answers to know what congress is going to do to protect America and Americans.

I am often asked by folks I speak with in my travels around the United States and when I am on radio programs, “What can I ask my elected representatives?” We all know that politicians are, for the most part, the most effective matadors in the world (They sure know how to throw the bull!)

So here is a fundamental question that may send these politicians running for cover- or at least cause them to twitch and shift the topic- you mission is to not let them change the topic! Keep on asking them just one fundamental question, “How do your proposals for implementing Comprehensive Immigration Reform square with the findings, recommendations and indeed, warnings of the 9/11 Commission?”

When tragedies strike we often find ourselves playing the “What if…” game. Sometimes we play the similar game of, “If only…” The thoughts that race through our heads do not constitute a game in the conventional sense- but we become caught up in the useless, frustrating and maddening thoughts that if one of the fundamental actions had not been taken then the outcome would have been different.

In the wake of a traffic accident we may think that the whole thing would not have happened if we had not decided to run the errand we were doing when the accident occurred. Perhaps we think about how if we had only shoveled the snow off of our stairs a member of our family would not have been injured falling down those stairs.

Sometimes it does not involve us personally but involves a national tragedy. I will never forget emerging from the shower on January 28, 1986 rushing to get dressed to take my first wife to the hospital for her cancer treatments and passing by the television and seeing the image of the empty launch pad at Cape Canaveral. My thoughts about my wife’s medical problems- her prognosis was bleak, were replaced by my concerns about what had just happened in Florida. I turned up the volume and heard the news that the Space Shuttle Challenger had exploded just over a minute after lift-off.

As I watched the video tapes of the astronauts emerging from their complex and waving to the assembled reporters and well-wishers as they headed to the vehicle for the drive to the launch pad I wanted to scream at them and tell them to not get on board the ill-fated spacecraft.

Of course my desire the yell at the television was irrational. Even if as I watched the images they were still alive they certainly could not have heard me. But, as my dad used to say, “If is the biggest small word in the English language.” In fact, there is an old Yiddish saying that “If my grandmother had different genitals she would have been my grandfather!”

In point of fact, no one could have spoken to the crew of the Challenger as I watched the video because they had died just minutes earlier in a horrific explosion in the clear blue skies above the launchpad that obliterated the most incredible flying machine ever built and as a consequence snuffed out those irreplaceable lives.

In the wake of the disaster NASA convened a panel to find out precisely what went wrong and what needed to be done to address the failures to do everything necessary to prevent this sort of tragedy from ever happening again.

Many changes were made in the launch procedures and in the construction of the solid fuel rocket boosters resulting in changing the “O-rings” that join the sections of those rockets.

Airplane crashes are similarly scrutinized to find out what went wrong and to find ways of eliminating the problems that caused or even contributed to the crash of an airplane.

After all, it has been said that “Insanity is doing the same things the same way and expecting a different outcome.”

On September 11, 2001 the United States suffered the worst terror attack ever carried out on its soil. Not unlike the disaster that befell Space Shuttle Challenger, the United States government created the 9/11 Commission for the same reason that an investigation was conducted into the loss of that spacecraft and its crew. The 9/11 Commission was created for the same reasons that airplane crashes are investigated- to discover what went wrong and make the appropriate changes to do whatever can be done to prevent future such tragedies.

It was known that visa fraud and immigration benefit fraud were among the vulnerabilities that made the 9/11 attacks possible. In fact, on May 20, 1997, more than four years before the attacks of 9/11, the House Subcommittee on Immigration and Claims conducted a hearing that was predicated on the two attacks of 1993 at the CIA in January and the first World Trade bombing one month later, on the topic:

“VISA FRAUD AND IMMIGRATION BENEFITS APPLICATION FRAUD”

I participated as a witness at that hearing. It was my first appearance before a Congressional hearing but would hardly my last.

On 9/11 I was enraged knowing that if the Clinton Administration had acted to close the gaps in the immigration system that were discovered in the wake of the two 1993 attacks, in my judgement, the terror attacks of 9/11 could have been prevented. (I am not being political in that statement, for what it is worth, I am a lifelong registered Democrat. Immigration is not about “Left” or “Right” but about right or wrong!)

NASA followed the recommendations of the panel that investigated the loss of Challenger. Airlines, aircraft manufacturers, companies that maintain and service airplanes and air traffic controllers all make changes in the way they go about their jobs in response to findings and recommendations that result from investigations conducted by the NTSB, the FAA and other relating agencies.

HOWEVER– where the threat of terrorism is concerned, our government is failing to heed the warnings, findings and recommendations of the 9/11 Commission where the failures of the immigration system are concerned. The Obama administration’s policies should earn every member of the administration involved with the DREAMERS and all of the other programs to provide aliens with immigration benefits without proper safeguards to identify, punish and thus deter fraud the “MVP Award” from ISIS, al-Qaeda and all of the other terror and criminal organizations that have targeted America and Americans.

In fact, while the 9/11 Commission warned that immigration fraud and visa fraud were essential tools used to great advantage by most of the terrorists who not only participated in the attacks of 9/11 but in other instances where terrorists attempted to carry out attacks inside the United States, nothing of consequence has been done to instill integrity into the process by which applications for immigration benefits are adjudicated.

Indeed, as you will see in my article- quite the opposite is happening especially as the administration processes applications for millions of aliens each and every year- many of whom not being required to show up for a face to face interview.

The 9/11 Commission Staff Report on Terrorist Travel detailed numerous examples of instances where terrorists not only made use of visa and immigration benefit fraud to enter the United States but to also embed themselves in the United States. Page 47 of this report noted:

“Once terrorists had entered the United States, their next challenge was to find a way to remain here. Their primary method was immigration fraud. For example, Yousef and Ajaj concocted bogus political asylum stories when they arrived in the United States. Mahmoud Abouhalima, involved in both the World Trade Center and landmarks plots, received temporary residence under the Seasonal Agricultural Workers (SAW) program, after falsely claiming that he picked beans in Florida.”

It is significant to note that the Seasonal Agricultural Program, also known as the Special Agricultural Program (SAW) were major components of the 1986 Amnesty at that New York’s then Congressman Chuck Schumer was one of that program’s major architects even though there were absolutely no farms in his congressional district when he concocted it.

This paragraph is found on page 98 of the report, under the title “Immigration Benefits:”

“Terrorists in the 1990s, as well as the September 11 hijackers, needed to find a way to stay in or embed themselves in the United States if their operational plans were to come to fruition. As already discussed, this could be accomplished legally by marrying an American citizen, achieving temporary worker status, or applying for asylum after entering. In many cases, the act of filing for an immigration benefit sufficed to permit the alien to remain in the country until the petition was adjudicated. Terrorists were free to conduct surveillance, coordinate operations, obtain and receive funding, go to school and learn English, make contacts in the United States, acquire necessary materials, and execute an attack.”

In the days, weeks and months after the terror attacks of September 11, 2001 a veritable parade of politicians- especially members of both the House of Representatives and the United States Senate solemnly filed up to stand before the television cameras and the forest of microphones attached to the podium and thumped that podium or, perhaps, thumped their chests demanding to know, “Why no one had connected the dots!”

I have testified before well over a dozen Congressional hearings in both the House of Representatives and the Senate and provided testimony to the 9/11 Commission. Perhaps the highest profile hearing I for which I have been called to testify was conducted on March 19, 2002 by the House Committee on the Judiciary, Subcommittee on Immigration and Claims, on the topic:

“INS’S MARCH 2002 NOTIFICATION OF APPROVAL OF CHANGE OF STATUS FOR PILOT TRAINING FOR TERRORIST HIJACKERS MOHAMMED ATTA AND MARWAN AL-SHEHHI”

This hearing was covered by C-SPAN and the C-SPAN video every member of Congress should be required to watch it. It is unfathomable how thirteen years after that hearing was conducted into one of the most outrageous screw-ups that all of the promises to address the failures of the system continue to plaque the very same system that would be required to adjudicate the applications filed by unknown millions of illegal illegal aliens in the United States under “Comprehensive Immigration Reform” and the administration continues to prepare to process millions of illegal aliens to provide them with official identity documents to provide proof that they have been granted temporary lawful status without legal justification and without being interviewed in person!

The dots have been well connected- repeatedly by a parade of experts who provided testimony to the 9/11 Commission and before a long list of Congressional hearings conducted before numerous committees and subcommittees in both the House and Senate, yet many of these same “leaders” cringe at the mere mention of the 9/11 Commission Report or its findings- especially when the issue of Comprehensive Immigration Reform is concerned.

On July 27, 2006 I testified before the House Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security and Claims on the topic:

WHETHER THE ATTEMPTED IMPLEMENTATION OF THE REID-KENNEDY IMMIGRATION BILL WILL RESULT IN AN ADMINISTRATIVE AND NATIONAL SECURITY NIGHTMARE

In my testimony back then, I made my opposition to the Senate immigration bill, S.2611 abundantly clear. I noted that any member of Congress who would vote to provide lawful status and identity documents for millions of illegal aliens should be given “The MVP Award by al-Qaeda!” You can see a segment of my testimony at that hearing in a video that has been posted on You Tube.

There are other politicians who want to sound “tough” and say that “First we must secure the border.” Of course they are referencing the US/Mexican border that is as porous as a sieve. Make no mistake- that border must be made secure- but it is hardly the only component of the dysfunctional system- yet for these BS artists- and that is exactly what they are- the Mexican border had nothing to do with the terror attacks of September 11, 2001!

The first step in problem solving is to identify the components of the problem and then devising the best strategies to most effectively deal with the problem. However, sometimes solutions run contrary to competing interests. Immigration is an issue that has proven to be problematic for many politicians who seek to garner campaign contributions from those individuals and special interest groups that have found huge profits to be had in the massive influx of aliens.

The need candidates have for ever-increasing amounts of money to mount successful political campaigns. Perhaps the time has come for our politicians to add a new position to their staffs, that of “Official Auctioneer!” Those making the huge campaign contributions do so because they seek to buy influence among our political leaders and they are succeeding. Increasingly we are, indeed, getting the “Best Government Money Can Buy!”

The politicians understand that they must “deliver” when they accept those huge campaign contributions. They understand that if they do what their major contributors want that they will face hostile voters at the next election. Their “solution” is to offer legislation and programs that create the illusions of meeting the needs and expectations of their constituents while nothing could be further from the truth.

Why it’s no solution to the immigration crisis.

As the saying goes, you have to read between the lines to understand how this “game” is being played. Of course, this is hardly a game- America’s national security and the lives of Americans hang in the balance.

The motivation for importing huge numbers of foreign workers is to drive down wages and working conditions to maximize profit- at the expense of hard working Americans. This is not only the case where the physically demanding low skilled jobs are concerned but even where high tech jobs are concerned where the employees are highly educated and have post-graduate degrees.

To provide you with a bit of additional material, during my remarks at the panel discussion, I referenced an Op-Ed I had written for the Washington Times in which I articulated my concerns about the previous attempt to enact Comprehensive Immigration Reform that the Washington Times published on June 22, 2007. Senator Jeff Sessions quoted from my commentary, on three separate dates, from the floor of the U.S. during the contentious floor debates. In my piece I recommended that Comprehensive Immigration Reform be given a more honest and descriptive title, I suggested that it be renamed the “Terrorist Assistance and Facilitation Act!”

I recommend you review Senator Session’s statement on June 27, 2007 from the floor of the U.S. Senate on the Immigration Bill in which the Senator made reference to my suggested new name to that disastrous legislation in my Washington Times Op-Ed. His impassioned pleas to his colleagues averted a catastrophe and that legislation was defeated. However, not unlike Freddy Krueger, Comprehensive Immigration Reform has been brought back to life through the unilateral actions of President Obama and his proposed executive actions. Furthermore, there are politicians from both parties willing to give this legislative betrayal of America and Americans CPR!

Obama’s ‘Gift’ to International Terrorists: Immigration Executive Action

Today our nation and our citizens face a list of challenges and threats- nearly every one of which is being exacerbated by long-standing failures of our nation to secure our borders and enforce our immigration laws. To be clear, it is not “Anti-Immigrant” to want these two issues to be dealt with effectively. In point of fact, the same immigration laws that mandate the categories of aliens to be kept our of our country and the terms under which aliens should be removed from our country have absolutely nothing to do with race, religion or ethnicity, also provide for the lawful admission of roughly one million lawful immigrants and the naturalization of hundreds of thousands of new citizens each year.

It is therefore a contradiction in terms and thinking to claim that it is “Anti-Immigrant” to support the effective enforcement and administration of our immigration laws

Let us be clear in our thinking- it is “Pro-Immigrant” to be “Pro-Enforcement!”

When the issue of immigration comes up most people purely focus on the lack of integrity to the border that is supposed to separate the United States from America. Clearly that border lacks integrity and represents little more than a speed bump to smugglers who transport illegal aliens and contraband including record quantities of dangerous drugs such as heroin and cocaine into the United States.

However, there are many more components to the immigration system including systems by which aliens are granted visas to enter the United States and various immigration benefits such as conferring employment authorization to aliens in the United States and also include the adjudications process by which aliens are granted lawful immigrant status and even United States citizenship.

All of these systems of the immigration system lack integrity. Aliens who have gone on to commit crimes and even participate in terrorist attacks have often been dissevered to have successfully gamed the immigration benefits program in order to embed themselves in communities around the United States as they went about their deadly preparations.
