This evening I will be using recent disturbing news reports and other sources of information to provide clarity to the issue of how failures to effectively enforce immigration laws and secure our borders (all of our borders) goes grave harm to national security.

To provide a bit of background information here are a few links you may want to check out.

First of all, yesterday, December 20th, I interviewed David Meir-Levi, an American-born Israeli. He holds a BA from Johns Hopkins University, and an MA in Near Eastern Studies from Brandeis University. He taught Archaeology and Near Eastern History at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and at the University of Tel Aviv in the 60’s and 70’s, during which time he completed his service in the Israeli military.

Much of our conversation focused on the rapidly growing influence of Iran in Latin America and the ever increasing cooperation between members of Middle Eastern terrorist organizations such as Hamas, Hezbollah and likely al-Qaeda and the Mexican Drug Trafficking Organizations. We also discussed the challenges an d threats that these factors pose to the United States and incomprehensibly are not being effectively addressed by the government of the United States.

The jumping off point for our discussion was an excellent report prepared at the behest of Congressman Mike McCaul ® Texas who has been named to replace New York Congressman Peter King as the Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee for the House of Representatives. That report was issued on November 15, 2012 and was entitled:

“A Line in the Sand: Countering Crime, Violence and Terror at the Southwest Border,”

On December 18, 2012 the Washington Times published a news report that focused on a DHS Inspector General report that incompetence and ineptitude at USCIS was so rampant that criminals aliens have been able to remain in the United States, obtain jobs in sensitive locations and participate various social welfare programs.

Here is how the report begins:

The federal governments system of tracking immigrants’ status is so broken that it gives a green light to one in eight aliens who have been ordered deported, according to an audit Tuesday that found the government has gone on to approve some of those who slip through for work in sensitive areas of airports and granted them benefits such as Medicaid or food stamps.

Some of those aliens who should have been kicked out had serious criminal records, including for assault and extortion, according to the audit by the Homeland Security Department’s inspector general.

All told, some 800,000 immigrants are living in the U.S. who already have been ordered deported but have not yet left — or been removed by the government — from the country.

“The failures in our sample include individuals who applied for unemployment and disability insurance, food stamps, driver’s licenses and other benefits,” the auditors said. “Several individuals had criminal records, including assault with a deadly weapon, extortion, drug convictions and other convictions such as burglary, stalking and child abuse.”

The point is that our country is not only threatened by illegal aliens who surreptitiously enter the United States by evading the inspections process but by aliens who are lawfully admitted into the United States and succeed in gaming the “legal” immigration system.

This is the same “legal” system that would be tasked with processing millions or, more likely, tens of millions of illegal alien applicants for amnesty if proponents for such a wrong-headed program manage to foist that disastrous program upon the United States!

Among these aliens are so-called “sleeper” agents. There has been a long list of foreign nationals who have gamed the visa process and immigration benefits program in order to enter the United States, hide in plain sight (embed themselves in the parlance of the 9/11 Commission) and engage in terrorist-related activities.

While we are on the topic of sleeper agents, you should know that a recent Congressional

report focused on the interaction of terrorist and narcotics trafficking organizations and sleeper agents. Additionally, recently Rep. Sue Myrick spoke about her concerns about sleeper agents when participating in a recent radio interview that was posted on the WND Website and be found at:

Here is an excerpt from that article:

Rep. Sue Myrick, R-N.C., asserted in a radio interview today she believes it’s possible that Hezbollah, the radical terrorist organization tied to Iran, may be working with Mexican cartels to funnel not only drugs, but also terrorist sleeper agents into the U.S.

“Former [Defense Intelligence Agency] people and others have told me what is going on, there have been a couple of arrests in this country relative to people who have had ties to Hezbollah or Iran, and my concern has been with the drug cartels and the gangs that are operating in Mexico,” Myrick said. “There is, what I have been told, a very strong presence there of coordination between the two.”

The immigration laws are supposed to achieve two primary goals- to protect American lives and protect Americans’ jobs.

Our nation is greatly benefited by the rich diversity of our people which is why I could never imagine living anywhere except New York City, arguably the most diverse city in our nation if not, in fact, the world. However, my idea of diversity most certainly does not include members of MS-13, the Mexican drug cartels or members of other transnational gangs or members of al-Qaeda or other terrorist organizations!

It is also vital that American workers never be made to compete with foreign workers for their jobs! (This requirement is a component of the Immigration Laws that are not being enforced today!)

If our government’s failures to secure our nation’s borders and effectively enforce our immigration laws that are intended to protect our nation and our citizens concerns you or especially if it angers you, I ask you to call your Senators and Congressional “Representative. This is not only your right- it is your obligation!

We the People must make it clear to our politicians that we are not as dumb as they hope we are!

We live in a perilous world and in a perilous era. The survival of our nation and the lives of our citizens hang in the balance.

This is neither a Conservative issue, nor is it a Liberal issue- simply stated, this is most certainly an AMERICAN issue!

You are either part of the solution or you are a part of the problem!

Democracy is not a spectator sport!
