Today we plan to discuss my most recent commentary for the CAPS (Californians for Population Stabilization) website that addressed the apprehension of a dangerous fugitive from Mexico was arrested by ICE at his job as a cook at an El Paso, Texas restaurant. Here is the link to that commentary:
As I have often noted, most criminals and terrorists embed themselves in communities across our nation by taking mundane jobs that provide them with a source of income and camouflage. In fact, the day before a terrorist participates in an attack he (she) is likely to hide in plain sight by going to work!
Furthermore, with the justifiable concerns about workplace violence being taken ever more seriously, the vetting process of employees has never been more important than they are today. While many illegal aliens run our nation’s borders to seek unlawful employment, a significant number of illegal aliens have more sinister reasons for entering our country including aliens who have serious criminal histories and may, in fact, have entered the United States in an effort to evade law enforcement in other countries. The specific case that served as the predication for my commentary involved a citizen of Mexico who had been convicted of being a member of a violent kidnapping gang in Mexico and was freed from custody by his criminal cohorts. This thug had been sentenced to serve 42 years in prison for his crimes.
Could you imagine working with a transnational criminal like this guy?
If the thought gives you a feeling of warmth, you are likely suffering from heartburn!
The immigration laws are supposed to prevent the entry of such criminals into our country and to seek their removal should they manage to enter our country. Secretary of Homeland Security Napolitano has often made speeches in which she has minimized the importance of our immigration laws, the reality is that perhaps she should take out time from her busy schedule to actually read the laws contained in the Immigration and Nationality Act. I would urge her to pay particular attention to Title 8, United States Code section 212. This is the section of law that enumerates the various categories of aliens who, under the Immigration and Nationality Act, are supposed to be prevented from entering the United States and are supposed to be removed if they are found here:
Here is a link to that section of law:
Please take the time to review the contents of this section of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA).
Among the categories of aliens who are supposed to be kept out of the United States are aliens with dangerous communicable diseases, aliens who suffer serious mental illness and are prone to violence, aliens who are convicted felons, aliens who fugitives from justice in other countries, aliens who are human traffickers and drug smugglers, aliens who are war criminals and aliens who have committed human rights violations. Also aliens who are engaged in terrorism and espionage are among those who are, by law, supposed to be prevented from entering our country and are supposed to be removed if they manage to evade the Border Patrol and enter the United States.
Our nation’s immigration laws are intended to protect American lives and American jobs. Aliens who violate those laws and the system that should be operating effectively to enforce those laws create a grave risk to the lives and well being of our citizens, our lawful immigrants and our nation.
