"Time for a New Ellis Island?" – My latest article for FrontPage Magazine

Hi Gang:

Today, October 7th, FrontPage Magazine, a publication of the David Horowitz Freedom Center published my latest commentary.  This time I focused on the public health significance of the inspections process conducted at ports of entry across the United States by the CBP (Customs and Border Protection) Inspectors.  My career with the former INS (Immigration and Naturalization Service began 43 years ago when I entered on duty as an Immigration Inspector assigned to John F. Kennedy International Airport.  I remained in that position for approximately 4 years and then went on to become an INS Special Agent.
I called upon my experiences and other resources in writing my latest article:

In addition to reading my article I ask that you consider that when the issue of securing the borders of the United States is raised, most people will immediately turn their attention to the United Staes Border Patrol.  Indeed, the men and women of the Border Patrol are charged with a very serious mission- interdict those who would evade the inspections process conducted at ports of entry.
However, it is vital to take that inspections process conducted at rots of entry into consideration when discussion border security.  I have come to compare the importance of the inspections process conducted at ports of entry with the mission of the TSA to keep weapons and terrorists from getting on board airliners.  When the TSA fails to prevent weapons from getting through the screen process the failure is likely to make headlines.  Yet every single day thousands of intending illegal aliens are unwittingly welcomed into the United States by another component of the DHS- the CBP Inspectors.  It is vital to consider the importance of this process and solution must be found to make it more effective and efficient.
America’s borders (in all 50 states) and its immigration laws are our first line of defense and last line of defense.

The Washington Times published a disturbing report on July 20, 2013 entitled:

Homeland Security loses track of 1 million foreigners; report could hurt immigration deal

Here is how this important report begins:

The Homeland Security Department has lost track of more than 1 million people who it knows arrived in the U.S. but who it cannot prove left the country, according to an audit Tuesday that also found the department probably won’t meet its own goals for deploying an entry-exit system.
